It is however funny how Ghanaians had been breaking
tides of friendship since the Ebola Viral Disease (EVD) outbreak hit some part
of the West Africa Countries.
The ebola virus was detected in the remote jungles
of Southeastern Guinea early this year and spreaded out to Liberia, Sierra
Leone, Nigeria and Senegal.
As part of an its (ebola) campaign and measures put in
place to prevent encountering the disease, people are over conscious in terms of
holding hands, embracing and eating of meat.
The loving handshake greetings shared in church is
now seen as evil catastrophe even shaking of handkerchiefs in the praising of
God and expressing ones joy has become an omen to Christians.
Now people raises eye-brow of doubt thinking they
will contract the virus from a loving friend whom they once ate from the same bowl,
even those who mistakenly shake hands with you, will immediately sanitize their
hands as if you have been diagnosed of one.
One could say that ebola has set restrictions on the
kinds of meat one should take, making people despise the meat they truly love. Some
meat sellers showed signs of frustrations as most Ghanaians are now filled with
fear to buy any form of meat.
The EVD campaign is believed to have left
some people jobless especially sellers of bush meat and bat thus have made them
agitated about the incurable virus.
Report of a Nigerian who was rushed recently to
hospital was alleged to have been left without health officials’ treatment due
to the scare of contracting the disease.
Not long ago patients and some hospital staff of Sunyani
took to their heals as they suspected a patient who is suffering from hernia
bleeding as Ebola.
Due to the education on the disease in the media and
health personnel, many Ghanaians are confusing themselves to associate some
ailment with Ebola Viral Disease (EVD) this has led to many family neglecting
their relatives and leaving them isolated.
There are others who are of the view that the dreadful
disease is a curse that has stricken the war-like countries and that Ghanaians
should bow down and make their voice heard in prayers to seek the mercies of
the Lord rather than pin pointing and running in fear whenever they see and
hear someone stained with blood or showing signs of fever.
People are too much driven by the fear of contracting
ebola virus to the extent of leaving their environment in dirt thus has paved way for cholera to kill potent
beings who could have helped in the developmental agenda of this great Nation.
Since the United Nations (UN) used Ghana as a base
for supply bound for countries stricken by incurable virus, most Ghanaians are much
worried for the fact that some could contract such virus and make it spread its
wings in the country.
Travelling has become impossible, even if one has a
special help to give out to some friends of this ebola zone they will not as the disease has broken tides of friendship.
