Residents of Achimota
and its environs on Saturday benefitted from a medical and educational outreach
programme organised by the Empowerment Worship Centre (EWC).
Dubbed, “Medical Outreach
and Back to School”, the fourth Life Check outreach event of the centre was aimed
at promoting good health among the people and also prepare school children to
return to school, after the long vacation.
The programme screened residents
for diabetes, hepatitis B and C, blood pressure, malaria, Anemia and eye defects,
and offered dental services and distributed relevant medicines to the
beneficiaries.
Many of the residents
were also registered for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The exercise also
offered family planning and birth examination for women, while others were
counseled, after which they were given free bibles, clothes and food.
As part of the
programme the Church, distributed exercise books, pencils, pens, erasers and
bags on the back to school programme.
The Coordinator for
Life Check, Dr. Paul Lartey in an interview with the Ghanaian Times, said Life Check was an annual programme of EWC to
reach out to people outside the Church.
He said the initiative
of the Church was basically to improve the health conditions of Ghanaians, and
also assist them in so many ways to improve their standard of living.
The Team Counselor,
Bernard Osafo for his part, said the exercise provided counseling and
medication to help in early detection and prevention of any disease among
Ghanaians.
