Father's Day is a day set aside to celebrate and honor men especially fathers, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. In Catholic Europe, it has been celebrated on March 19 since the middle ages.
It is celebrated third Sunday of June in countries which have adopted the United States (U.S) dates, such as Argentina, Aruba, Canada and China. However, many parts of the world celebrate it in the month of March (Croatia) and May (Korea) and others celebrate it in the second Sunday of June, such as Belgium and Australia.
This celebration was brought by the Spanish and the Portuguese to Latin America.  It complements similar celebrations honoring family members, such as mother’s day and sibling’s day.
On Sunday June 18th most Ghanaian celebs posted pictures with their children and some with their fathers on various social media pages.

POEM BY JOYCELINE NATALLY CUDJOE

FAREWELL MAXWELL

The great sacred meat has been sacrificed
Pour him not libation his soul despised
Son of gun, a brave man on battle field
An epic wreath should design his stilled-shield
Let’s not embrace his icy corpse with cry
Less his young living bravery soul will die
Mourn him not! Less you praise hero to shame
The atrocious cruel maids must plead in maim

Mighty oak tree has fallen from its branch
The brave warrior departed to his ranch
Render his weak arm, strong unused pistol
War has risen, he could hear the whistle
Save us ‘O’ Maxwell, faint voices cried in lame
I bid you farewell as you journey to fame.

ASEM COULDN'T SUSTAIN THE HYPE

Fans of the popular musician, Asem have expressed much displeasure on how gradually the pop artist’ music is dying out from the music industry.

Nana Wiafe Asante- Mensah known in the showbiz as Asem is noted for hit songs like “Give me blow”, “Pigaro”, “Fylla” and “Bye-bye”.

He has been featured in so many songs and got many Ghanaians singing to his tempo with his talent of rapping in the hip-hop/highlife/reggae music genre.

Although in June last year the controversial rapper released a hit jamming hip-hop single titled “Yo-yo”, it was however not to the delight of his fans who were expecting something more after such a long absence.

The award winning artist generated a lot of attention on social media when he posted pictures of himself showing tremendous weight loss which he attributed to his new found healthy lifestyle and this divided lot of opinions with some people even suggesting he was fighting an ailment of a sort.

Asem won the best new artist (discovery of the year) in 2009 and was also nominated for 2013 VGMA from the category of the best rapper of the year which he did not win. This did not whither the interest of his fans in his music career since they saw him as a breath of fresh air in the music industry.

However, he has not lived to his billing and his performance in the industry can be described as nothing more but lackluster.

In an interview with Times Weekend his fans said, “Asem has failed to rock the music industry with hit songs as compared to the singles he earlier on released in the year 2007-2008 when he was at Lynx Entertainment.

He became very popular and his name Asem became a house hold name even on the lips of kids but he couldn’t sustain the hype.

Nancy Koomson, one of Asem’s fans Times Weekend spoke with urged the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Wobeda Ntem (WBDN) records to work harder in order to slate his name on the International music award lists like Black Entertainment Television (BET) award.

“No doubt that Asem is one of the best song writers of our time and his rap is undeniably a plus to the music industry”, she stressed.
